National Quantum Mission

The National Quantum Mission (NQM) is India’s significant initiative to harness the transformative potential of quantum technologies across critical sectors. Spearheaded by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), the mission aims to position India as a global leader in quantum science, technology, and innovation.

Vision

To establish and leverage India’s global leadership at the forefront of quantum technology through cutting-edge research, innovation & strategic applications.

Mission

To seed, nurture, productize and expand scientific and industrial R&D in Quantum Technology (QT) while cultivating a dynamic and vibrant ecosystem for breakthrough innovations.

Shaping India’s Quantum Future

Thematic Hubs

The National Quantum Mission (NQM) has successfully established its four thematic hubs, each focused on a specialized area within quantum technology:

Quantum Computing

Quantum Computing

Prompts collaboration, innovation, and ethical progress to create breakthroughs in real-world applications of quantum computing.

Quantum Communication

Quantum Communication

Advances secure, scalable quantum networks with unbreakable encryption (QKD, PQC) to transform data security and communication.

Quantum Sensing and Metrology

Quantum Sensing and Metrology

Utilizes quantum technology to enhance measurement precision, detecting minute changes with unmatched accuracy and sensitivity.

quantum-materials

Quantum Materials and Devices

Explores, develops, and commercializes quantum materials to advance the evaluation of various quantum technologies including computing, communication and sensing.

Implementation Strategy

The National Quantum Mission employs a Hub-Spoke-Spike Model to drive its objectives. This innovative framework is anchored by four Thematic Hubs (T-Hubs), which serve as central nodes to support and coordinate cluster-based projects (Spokes) and individual projects (Spikes), fostering seamless collaboration and cutting-edge advancements across the quantum ecosystem.

A robust governance structure ensures effective implementation and monitoring. The mission is guided by a Mission Governing Board (MGB) and a Mission Technology Research Council (MTRC).
